Port of Nanaimo - Community Activities
The Port of Nanaimo supports community activities through various means. First, the Board of Directors provides community support for community agencies through its Community Involvement Fund with financial grants to further the community’s service in key areas, which are port-related. Two intakes occur during the year, applications are reviewed by the Directors with funding awarded twice per year.
Additionally, community activities are supported by the Port through in-kind assistance to provide security and safety during key community events held in or above the Nanaimo’s harbour.
You might recognize the events found in the pictures below which include, The Dragon Boat Race, The World Famous Bathtub Race, Fireworks from Canada 150 or other festivals, the Snowbirds Aerial Acrobatic Airshow or the Silly Boat Race.
The Port’s Patrol Division coordinates with various volunteers and agencies to provide a safe environment for event participants and audiences for many harbour-based events.
