Community Involvement Fund

It is the policy of the Nanaimo Port Authority that, in keeping with the National Marine Policy as defined in the Canada Marine Act, to offer support for the achievement of local, regional, and national social and economic objectives through budgeted Community Involvement Funding.

The Community Involvement Fund is established by the Board of Directors. Wherever possible, contributions will be considered “seed” money rather than ongoing/sustaining financial support.

Community Support Nanaimo Port Authority

The Port of Nanaimo has contributed over $3.5 million
to benefit the Nanaimo community and Mid-Island Region

Since 1991 – the Nanaimo Port Authority and the Nanaimo Harbour Commission supported the Community with cash grants to assist various local projects and development for a total of $3,543,626.

Of special note is the Port Authority’s support for the building of the Port Theatre and the Vancouver Island Conference Centre with contributions of $1 Million toward each facility.
