Nanaimo Port Authority Maintains Transport Canada Security Protocol during Investigation by the RCMP at the Western Forest Products Mill

Mr. Bernie Dumas, President & CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority, states: “the Port Authority has been asked by the RCMP to maintain a media discreetness regarding the incident at the mill until information is provided by the RCMP and officials of the Western Forest Products.”

“We are monitoring the situation closely and defer to the RCMP for official information related to this morning’s incident. The Nanaimo Port Authority has a close working relationship with Western Forest Products, our neighbor at the Nanaimo Assembly Wharf, a port property adjacent to our Administration office. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals and families affected by today’s incident.” states Dumas.”

“As the agent for Transport Canada we are required to maintain Security Protocols for Properties under our jurisdiction; we have been in contact with Transport Canada since 07:00 hours when the incident occurred. Our priority is to ensure the safety of users on our properties and the foreshore adjacent to our properties. We have specific protocols and procedures to follow for the safety and security of the local community.”
