The Nanaimo Port Authority initiated its’ support for the United Way in 1986 and continues with a $2000 donation for 2014, a check presented at their Open House. Mr. Bernie Dumas, President & CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority explains: “It is easy to continue with our support for the United Way, a progressive organization and a vital force that helps so many with effective programs needed in our regional community. We know that through its’ network of community services the United Way engages the essential resources to influence the underlying causes of detrimental social issues.”

In January 2014, the United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island moved into a new office in downtown Nanaimo at #9 – 327 Prideaux Street, the first time in the charity’s 55-year history when they owned their office space. Mr. Dumas continues: “The NPA Board supports this progressive operating strategy, proof that the United Way continues to develop new ways to deliver the 60 life-changing programs they support for over 20,000 people in the region.”

Executive Director Signy Madden provides this insight: “Every day United Way is working on key issues such as solving homelessness or investing in kids so they are school ready. We couldn’t do this important work without strong partners like the Nanaimo Port Authority. They care about our community, donate and thus ensure that 33 vital programs are saving and positively changing lives this year. When I count our blessings, on the top of the list is the Port Authority for their decades of long support to United Way.” Contact the United Way at: www.uwcnvi.ca
