Arlene Rolston is busy in her job as Corporate Secretary and Executive Assistant to President and CEO Ian Marr at the Port of Nanaimo. This summer, she has been elected as a Director of the B.C. ee. Both are volunteer positions.

Arlene has over 20 years of business administration experience, including 13 years in downtown Nanaimo. Prior to joining the Management Team at the Port of Nanaimo in 2013, she was at Coastal Community Credit Union for 8 years.

She also worked at Cypress Mountain Ski Resort in West Vancouver while completing her BA degree in Socio-Political Economic Development at the University of British Columbia. Arlene has been involved in Chamber Policy since 2007 –first as Policy Committee Chair of the Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce, then Chair of the External Policy Development Committee of the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.

Policy work sometimes slips quietly beneath the radar. Committees analyze, debate and refine policy suggestions gleaned from Chamber members, preparing them for consideration of the membership at the organization’s annual general meeting and conference.  The BC Chamber’s grassroots non-partisan policy development process has empowered BC businesses and helped shape government public policy and decision-making since 1951.

“Representing this robust network of local Chambers, Boards of Trade and 36,000 businesses of every size, sector and region of the Province is a great honour” says Arlene. “Together, we are the Voice of Business in BC and we are a force to be reckoned with. By taking the time to share our ideas, we leverage the power of our crowd and make a meaningful difference in our communities.”

Arlene’s other skills include public relations, governance, organization, strategic planning, time management, record keeping, communication, event planning, sales and customer service.

“We are pleased to have skilled people on our team at the Port of Nanaimo,” says CEO Marr. “To see Arlene volunteer some of her valuable time to an organization like the BC Chamber of Commerce, which values her skills and insight, is a great honour, and she should be proud. We are proud of her.”
